Fall Fest on Main Wrap-Up

Well, the 2nd Walnut Fall Fest on Main is in the books. The Walnut Chamber of Commerce and the Fall Fest committee wants to thank the volunteers (over 100), the sponsors (over 40) that made the event possible and the patrons that attended the event. It was a great turn-out, even with the postponement to Sunday! We watched the forecast over a couple of days and when we saw it Saturday morning we made the call to postpone. At that point, the only way to get the word out was Facebook. That’s the power of social media. Word travels fast. When it was all said and done it turned into a Fall Fest weekend. Friday started with the first ever chili cook-off and it was a great turnout with eight chili recipes to choose from. Congrats to Mike Krug for winning first place and Joe Thompson finishing second. With Saturday’s postponement we still held the Wild Times Exotic Animals in the Community Building. The event was sponsored by Citizens First State Bank and Atherton Grain. Again, great turn-out despite the weather and the change of venue. Sunday turned out to be a great day. Again, I’ve said it many times. All the hours of preparation are all worth it when you see the smile on a child’s face and families having a good time together. I wish I could thank everyone in this column that took part in this event. But, there are so many that made it happen I know I would forget some names. If you are reading this, THANK YOU. Can’t wait to do it all again on October 6, 2018. Now we transition to Christmas time. Yes, Christmas time. Mark your calendars for November 25th and 26th for the Walnut Christmas Open House Weekend. I can’t end this column without mentioning the great news that Walnut will have a grocery store again! If you haven’t heard the old grocery store has been remodeled in preparation of Walnut Acres Country Store. Many have expressed the desire for a grocery store in Walnut again. Now that it is happening, starting in November, please support it. Shop Walnut whenever you can. If you haven’t noticed, good things are happening around town.
