Chamber Corner: Halloween and Christmas Announcements

It’s Halloween week and, despite 2020 cancelling most of our townwide events, there will be several activities going on Saturday for the kiddos. The Village has set the trick-or-treat hours for 5-7 p.m. They are recommending taking the proper precautions when handing out candy this year and if trick-or-treating. If it’s a nice day out, consider sitting outside to hand out candy. Wear a mask when you can’t social distance. There will be no nursing home trick-or-treating this year. Also, Walnut Community Bible Church will be holding a scarecrow contest from 2-4 p.m. at the church. Scarecrows will be on display outside. Walnut Acres Country Store will be offering mini pumpkin decorating from 3-5 p.m. in the greenspace west of WCBC. Konz Restaurant & Lounge will have a trunk or treat and costume contest from 4-5 p.m. Working on Walnut also announced this past week a Townwide Christmas Lighting Contest. We would love to see the town lit up a little more than usual this year to bring some holiday cheer. Prizes will be awarded for the top homes. First place is $250, 2nd place is $100 and 3rd place $50. There is also a new category for the best block in town. Winners will be announced on Monday, December 21st. I want to clarify a few things on the Walnut Telephone Directories the Chamber is currently working on. This past week dropboxes were placed at the Village Office, Post Office and Shell. You can fill out your name, phone number and address if you would like to be included in the directory. We also created an online form that takes less than 30 seconds to fill out in you prefer that method. You do not need a Google account to fill out this form. A link to the form can be found on the homepage at walnutillinois.com. Finally, it was great see the community come together recently to finish harvest for the Wangelin family after the loss of Rob. I think Rob’s brother said it best when he said that Rob would have been there in someone else’s time of need. Be encouraged by the good in the world. Remember to shop Walnut this week!
