ABOUT WALNUT
Walnut, Illinois, is a community of 1,500 nestled between Interstates 80 and 88. Within a morning’s drive or quick train ride from Chicago, and only an hour from Rockford, Peoria and the Quad Cities, Walnut is the ideal location for any family or business.
In addition to the Walnut Chamber of Commerce, the village boasts several local clubs, including the Working on Walnut Committee, Rotary Club, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Walnut Park District, 4-H, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and a variety of active churches.
Walnut’s historic Main Street is home to the post office, banks, insurance agents, a realtor, restaurants, retail stores and a fitness center. When coming into Walnut on Illinois Route 92, visitors cross paths with the veterinarian, hair stylists, a car dealership, repair shops, gas stations and more. In addition to our local agricultural businesses, Walnut is also the founding location for several industrial organizations serving customers regionally and internationally.
As a member of the Bureau Valley School District, Walnut students attend the Bureau Valley Walnut Elementary nestled amid the Walnut Park District on the south end of Walnut. Junior High and High school students attend the state-of-the-art Bureau Valley Junior High and High School location in nearby Manlius, Illinois. Multiple licensed in-home and organization day care providers are also available.
