September is Here
We made it to September. Only four months left of 2017. The saying is true that time goes faster as you get older.
September means a lot of things going on in Walnut.
The Townwide Garage Sales will be held in a couple of weeks, Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16. Get your garage sale listings to Angie at the Leader. In conjunction with that, you’ve probably seen Mattress Fundraiser signs all over Walnut. At the Community Building those two days you can buy a mattress or pillows from former Walnut resident Randy Gonigam’s company Essential Bed and 22% of the proceeds will go to our Main Street Renovation Fund. It’s a win-win situation.
September will also mean Main Street will transition to a Fall theme. Looking forward to seeing how the Beautification Committee from Working on Walnut decorates Main Street.
Our Fall sports teams at Bureau Valley are off to a good start. Go out and support our youth at all levels, junior high and high school. The big Bureau Valley Cross Country Invite will be held the same day as the Townwide Garage Sales so that will bring a lot of travelers to Walnut.
Fall Fest on Main planning is in full gear. The posters are around town and brochures will be distributed this week. We will also soon be taking T-shirt orders for the 2017 shirt. Contact me at director@walnutillinois.com if you want to pre-order a shirt for $10. The design and colors will be released shortly. All proceeds from Fall Fest on Main goes back into the community. We have a lot of projects around Walnut right now, so every dollar spent will go to good use.
That leads me to the Celebrate Walnut 50/50. Tickets have been on sale since last year’s Fall Fest on Main. We are hoping for a big run of ticket sales here as we approach the final month. Just a reminder where the proceeds for the ticket sales go: 1) Walnut Days Celebration; 2) Walnut Public Library Reading Garden; 3) Park District Bike Trail; 4) Main Street Renovations. All great causes to support. Currently, tickets can be purchased at Pit Stop, The Walnut Leader, Heritage Health and Citizens First State Bank.
Last week’s Cash Mob went well. It was held at Walnut Hardware. We had close to 15-20 “mobbers”. Thank you to those that supported shopping local.
