(WOW) Working on Walnut Update
On Thursday night the WOW Coordinating Council met to discuss what’s been happening over the last few months and future plans from the sub-committees. I thought I would use this space to give you an update!
The Events Committee held a Euchre Night at Konz Restaurant & Lounge on Friday, March 6. This is the second year they’ve held the event with prizes being awarded. The Events Committee is also looking ahead to a couple of important events this summer. The Children’s Theatre will be happening again with practices tentatively to start in June and a performance date TBA. The committee is hoping to have information available at the Walnut Park District registration dates. Also, the committee plans to hold the Patriotic Painting Party again on Friday night of Walnut Days at the W Field.
The Sports and Rec Committee is still in the planning stages of a community Bike/Walk Trail. The recently applied for a grant for the project. They also plan on holding another end-of-school-year Nerf War as well as other events, including bringing back the Dodgeball Tournament at Fall Fest. The Committee also still has Walnut Grade School bleacher boards for sale.
The Liberty Square Committee continues to meet twice a month concerning the future of the property on Main Street. Fundraising for the project is in the beginning stages.
Main Street Revitalization continues to meet, but no update was available at the time of the meeting.
WOW continues to be an important part of the community and a lot of work and research is happening behind the scenes every month. This month WOW is celebrating its third year anniversary as an organization in our community!
As far as Chamber news goes, stop by the Fish Fry on Friday night at the Community Building! We will be serving from 5-8 p.m. with the menu being Fish, Potato Salad, Rolls, Dessert and a Drink. Cost is $8 per person and $5 for 12 and under. Carry-outs are available!
