Turning the calendar to another month

As you read your Walnut Leader, or see this on the Chamber Web site, you have rolled the calendar to another month. The days and years just keep going by faster all the time. If you have any plans or dreams, you best get going on them, as time does not wait for you or anyone. It seems like yesterday we had snow and cold.

Now, I come down the hill and see the Flowering Crab trees on the West end of the old Football field, and how beautiful they look. Many of us remember the grand old high school building and the memories we have there. From our teachers that inspired our learning, to competing in Blue Raider sports, to all the friends we would have for a life time it was a great location of life. The old building is long gone, and the people who have built homes on the hollowed hill are doing the area proud, with well-kept homes and yards. Spring rains and early warm temps have allowed the trees and early Spring flowers to explode with life and color. Walnut certainly has some very well kept yards and grounds, just another example of why it’s good to live here.

One other Spring event will begin this week as well. The weekly Farmers Market will begin this Wednesday May 4th. Market will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons. The ladies in charge of the market can keep you up to date on the Facebook page. I talked to Robin this morning, she said this first week’s offerings will be bedding plants, flowers for Mother’s day, and crafts. Make sure you stop on Wednesday afternoon, and support these vendors.

Spring has its annual events, that affect many of us. One of those events is graduation from Bureau Valley schools, as well as college graduations. This is the time we celebrate young people’s accomplishments and continue to encourage them to move on to higher learning in High School, College, or a school of trades of some kind. Walnut is blessed with young people that have moved onto great schools of higher learning and become successful.

I want to highlight a few young ladies that are graduates of Bureau Valley schools and have moved onto schools that have or will prepare them for successful careers. I have a couple of Niece’s that are graduating from college this Spring. Emma Brousseau, and Erin Siltman are two homegrown Walnut ladies that enter the world of Careers after graduation this Spring. Jaimie Rosenthal has been recognized in the world of banking with a promotion at Central Bank in Princeton.

Emma is graduating from St. Mary’s college in South Bend Indiana, with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Biology. Emma is also an aspiring writer. Erin graduates from Embry Riddle, and has accepted a position with the FAA. Erin will begin her career with an engineering position within the office of Operation integration in Florida. Jaimie Rosenthal has accepted a promotion with Central Bank. Jaimie will be an Assistant Vice President within the Mortgage department. If you see any of these ladies, stop and congratulate them on their accomplishments. These are just a few examples of the success stories that are being created by young women that are Walnut, Illinois. We recognize our successful business within our community, we need to also recognize the value of our successful hard working young people. They are and will be a success because they choose to do so and earn it.

This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day. If you still have the privilege to have your mom, make sure you call or visit her. If there are fences to mend, or concerns from the past, now is a great time to recognize those challenges. Who cares whose fault it was, it is your opportunity to fix it? Do it now, you will always feel better about it. I want to wish the ladies in my life a Happy Mother’s day, may you celebrate many more.

Lastly, get your pool pass people!!!! Get your kids signed up for baseball and softball!!! Summer is going to be here soon, and we all want to enjoy our wonderful Park District to the fullest. It is always great seeing the lights on and the activities going on at the Ball Diamonds. Walnut is very blessed to have this great asset. Have a great week people, shop Walnut whenever you can. Thanks for your efforts.
