Chamber Corner: Brrrr....

Brrr… it’s cold outside.

Due to the winter weather we had this past week, the kids had school called off three times. Being a high school basketball coach, we had three games cancelled and no practice all week. The bad news is the weather doesn’t look much better for this week.

This also means it can be a tough time for our local businesses. Some have to close as well due to the weather. For some, the foot traffic may be low due to people just not wanting to leave their homes. Remember to still support local businesses during this time of year.

The good news is you don’t have to leave town anymore for your essentials. Get your groceries in town, we have several dining options in town serving food if you don’t want to cook, and I know several stores that still have stock of salt for your sidewalks and driveways.

Looking ahead to Spring, it won’t be long.

We have our Chamber Banquet scheduled for Monday, April 1st at Konz. Senator Chuck Weaver will be the keynote speaker. Cost is $20 per person or $35 per couple. RSVP to director@walnutillinois.com. Invitations will also be sent out soon to those who have attended in the past.

There is also an article in today’s paper in regards to this year’s Hall of Fame nominees. This year’s Hall of Fame members will be honored at the Banquet. Send your nominee and a short paragraph to the e-mail above for consideration.

Chamber membership letters will be going out in the next week or so. Your membership helps us accomplish the many projects we are involved in each year to promote Walnut. Please visit walnutillinois.com/members for business members. Each business has a profile page with address and contact information. This month we highlight Shell Express Lane as our Featured Member. They give a lot back into the community and Mary and staff do a great job serving their customers.

Have a great week and shop Walnut.
