Chamber Corner: Walnut Acres Fire, TCI Manufacturing and Chili Cook-Off

A new year means a fresh start with new goals and resolutions. Have you kept your resolutions through the first week?

It also has meant frigid temperatures which is a perfect time to shop Walnut. Why leave town in extreme cold when you can get groceries, gas and dine in Walnut?

Speaking of getting groceries. You may have heard that the Jameson’s, owner of Walnut Acres Country Store had a barn fire on New Year’s Day. It’s unfortunate because a lot of the work has to been put into the barn recently in preparation for butchering. Also a lot of contents and equipment from their business was stored in there. They have put a lot of work into the community this past year and now you have an opportunity to help the family out. A GoFundMe has been established by a family friend at https://www.gofundme.com/Walnutacresfirefund.

TCI Manufacturing is once again offering a FREE 8-week training for those currently looking to learn new job skills. This is for those desiring to learn/obtain new job skills pertaining to steel fabrication and welding. They are wanting to train assemblers, machine operators and welders. Upon successful completion of the course you are guaranteed employment with TCI Manufacturing or placed on a preferred hiring list. Individuals must pass a drug test required for employment, have a valid driver’s license and possess a solid work record. Interested applicants can contact TCI at 815-379-2090. This is a huge asset to the community. Thanks TCI!

We will have our first Chamber meeting on Thursday, January 11 at Green River Country Club. Usually we meet the second Tuesday of each month but scheduling conflicts forced the change of date. Plans will start beginning for our membership drive and annual Chamber Banquet. Looking forward to it!

Also at Green River Country Club, on Saturday, January 27th is a Soup’Er Chili Bowl Cook Off benefiting Cora’s Crew and St. Jude Rides. There is no fee to enter and donations only to taste as many as you want! Grilled Cheese sandwiches will be available to have with your soup. Set-up begins at 4 p.m. and tasting from 5-7 p.m. Contact Christina Lewis at 815-915-6577 to register your soup or chili by January 13th.

That’s it for this week. Remember to shop Walnut whenever you can.
