Chamber Corner: Telephone Directory concern

Happy November everyone. We started the month with temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s. I think I could live with that for a few more weeks or months.

I wanted to quickly address a concern about the Walnut Telephone Directory. There was concern that the info collected (name, address phone number) would be sold and publicized and that’s just not true. We understand if you don’t want to be included in the directory, but we can assure you that your info is not being sold or publicized anywhere besides the 700+ directories that we will print and distribute within Walnut.

The directory is not a new project, it’s something we are continuing from previous years and Chamber Boards. The last one was published in 2015-16 and there were previous editions before that. We had a huge demand for new directories and these are used very frequently by our citizens and businesses. We have had a great response from our businesses as far as advertising in the directory and we appreciate that support.

To be honest, it’s been a hard year financially for the Chamber, like many other businesses and organizations in town. We’ve had to cancel our three biggest events this year (our Banquet, Walnut Days activities and Fall Fest on Main). These events, specifically Walnut Days and Fall Fest, our big fundraisers for us and help us pay the bills and promote Walnut. So, the directory idea comes at a perfect time. It will be be fundraiser for us, plus five years seems like the appropriate time to re-produce a new version.

For those that choose not to be listed, again, we have no problem with that! But trust us when we say your information is not being used for any other reason.

In other news, we are hoping to release our Christmas Open House schedule this week. We are just finalizing a few details. The Christmas Open House will be held on Saturday, December 5!

Have a great week and shop Walnut whenever you can!
