Chamber Corner: Walnut Days Week is Here!

Walnut Days Week is here! Have you made your plans for the weekend? If you haven’t picked up a brochure with this year’s event at a local business you can view the schedule on Facebook at the Walnut Days Celebration page or the Walnut Illinois page. Everything kicks off Friday afternoon and ends with the best fireworks display in the area on Sunday at Dusk.

The Celebration Committee is still looking for volunteers for various activities. If you haven’t volunteered yet, please consider doing so. Opportunities would include: Dunk Tank volunteers, the Chamber Chicken/Fish Fry on Sunday afternoon, 3-on-3 basketball referee, and bucket collectors Sunday night before the fireworks. Please contact director@walnutillinois.com if you are interested in helping in any of these areas.

One change for Sunday night is the firework crew/Park District have opened up the west baseball diamond for additional seating. They have adjusted the firework launching location to accommodate. Please do not put blankets down on the hill until Sunday!

I want to thank the Celebration Committee for all the hard work that goes into this upcoming weekend. The Committee has put in countless hours of planning to make everything run smooth. If you see a Committee member this weekend make sure you thank them for their efforts.

In other news, I’m sure you’ve seen the press release for the new “Liberty Square”. It’s an exciting future for that spot on Main Street. This multi-purpose outdoor facility could be used for a variety of things like Fall Fest, Children’s Theatre, Outdoor Concerts, Weddings, Farmers Markets, among many other things. This is another committee that put in countless volunteer hours for the future of Walnut, sometimes meeting twice a month. Lots more information coming, but a job well done to the Liberty and Main Committee and thank you citizens for submitting your ideas for that space as we had several people suggest this type of facility for that area.

That’s it for today. Volunteer, Support Walnut Days and shop Walnut whenever you can.
