We are about a month away from school letting out for the summer and with that there are a lot of upcoming things to look forward to around Walnut.
The Townwide Garage Sales will be held Friday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 4th. Make sure you get your listings turned into the Leader by Friday to be have your items featured in the paper.
On May 17-19, Sunset Ridge MX will be holding the AMA National Championship Area Qualifier for Bikes and Minicycle Classes. Visit sunsetridgemx.com for this year’s full calendar as they celebrate their 20th season!
Once the calendar turns to June, the Park District will be active every night with ballgames and the pool will be open 7 days a week. We are fortunate to have a great Park District in our town!
Mark your calendars for Walnut Days on July 5-7 this year. The Celebration Committee is working hard getting everything finalized for this year’s big event. 50/50 and Golf Cart tickets are starting to make their rounds around town. Plan to purchase some and support the weekend. One announcement regarding Walnut Days is the Miss Independence Pageant will be held the Saturday before this year (June 29th) at Walnut Community Bible Church.
I know for me the nicer weather means a lot of cooking out on the grill. Make sure to get your meat here in town at Pit Stop (Wyanet Locker) or Walnut Acres Country Store. Walnut Hardware has a selection of grills as well if you are needing a new one this year.
Speaking of cook-outs, the Walnut Rotary Club will hold their first one of the season on April 27th at Veteran’s Memorial Park. The following weekend, during Garage Sales, the Boy Scouts will also be cooking out.
One more Walnut Rotary note, the sidewalk out to the cemetery project is progressing quickly and will be a great addition this Memorial Day. Thank you Jeff Wallace for the inspiration and kicking off this project and the Rotary for taking it on.
Hope you have a great week and shop Walnut whenever you can!
