Chamber Corner: Mattress Sale, Celebrate 50/50, Fall Fest on Main

Garage Sale weekend was a huge success in many ways for the community. The Mattress Sale that benefited the Main Street Renovation Committee surpassed their fundraising goal. Also, the Bake Sale on Main Street benefitting WOW practically sold out both days and Celebrate Walnut 50/50 tickets continued to sell as well. I thought it was fitting that while the fundraiser was going on, the Main Street Committee and many community volunteers started renovations on the future home of the Pass It Along Store. It was amazing to see all the help and all that was accomplished. While looking at the work that needs to be done on Main Street can be overwhelming at times, the Main Street Renovations motto on their banner is perfect: “One Project at a Time”. That makes things seem less overwhelming. Let’s keep the momentum going. We are only two weeks away from Fall Fest on Main. Hard to believe. Today as I write this it is the first official day of Fall. It’s also expected to reach over 90 degrees today.

A new event this year is the Chili Cook-Off that will take place Friday night in the Fall Fest on Main tent. There is no cost to enter as a contestant and if you want to be a chili taster (the best part), it’s only $5 for unlimited tasting. The first prize chili winner gets $100, a unique trophy made by Walnut’s Greg Wallace and a chef apron! Second place will get $50. This will be a fun event and a great kick-off for the weekend. Please consider attending. One note about the 50/50 tickets. After talking to several area businesses this week, ticket sales have definitely increased recently as we get closer to the event. Remember, when you are buying 50/50 tickets you are also donating to the community. Half of the pot will got to community projects. Even if you don’t win the big money, your dollars will be put to good use. Have a great week. Shop Walnut!
