Chamber Corner: Business After Hours, Cash Mob, Mattress Fundraiser

How was your week? Mine was busy, which seems to be how this summer has gone. I can't believe we are already into August. But, like I said last week the good news is that means Fall is around the corner which is probably my favorite season of the year.

Several new announcements this week.

The Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce we are starting a quarterly Business After Hours. The first one will be held at Green River Country Club on Thursday, August 17th from 4:30-6:00 p.m. This is an informal event and gives a chance for business professionals in Walnut to network. Employees and owners of Walnut businesses are invited to attend. There will be food and door prizes at the event. Come for 30 minutes or stay for the whole time.

Also, Working on Walnut will be having another Cash Mob on Saturday, August 26 at 10 a.m. A cash mob is a community event to join together and show support for a local business in town. You will commit to spending at least $20 that day at a business. The location of the business you are shopping at won't be announced until that morning. Cash Mobbers will meet at the Veteran's Memorial Park in Walnut at 9:30 a.m. that morning and at that time we will announce the location you will be shopping at.

The Walnut Park District is holding Pool Fun Days from July 31st to August 4th. The pool will be open from 10 a.m. to Noon. The cost is $2 per day or $5 for the week. Pool passes do not cover the Pool Fun Days. Enjoy the pool for some extra hours before school starts.

Town-wide Garage Sales will be held Friday, September 15th and Saturday, September 16th. In conjunction with that, former Walnut resident Randy Gonigam will be bringing his Essential Bed mattresses to town for sale. The location of the sale will be announced soon but this is a fundraiser for the Walnut Main Street Renovation non-for-profit, which means all fundraising money will go towards a group looking to restore and renovate dilapidated buildings on Main Street.

That's it for now. Have a great week. Shop Walnut.
